What flow rate should I get?

All children feed at different rates, so you may find that your child requires greater or possibly slower rates than what we recommend. All feeding systems on the market are different. Moving from one company’s feeding system to another may require some experimentation. We have consulted with lactation specialists and parents across the country to identify the suggested guidelines.

Product Suggested Age Ranges:

thinkbaby™ Slow Flow 0 months to 3 months
thinkbaby™ Medium Flow 3 months to 6 months
thinkbaby™ Fast Flow 6 months to one year

What's the difference between Cross-Cut design and Single Hole?

Cross Cut - The cross cut version allows your child to determine when they are ready to feed. By gently applying pressure to the nipple, the cross cut opens to allow the flow of fluid. The cross cut version is also no spill. When the bottle is held upside down or knocked over nothing comes out. All of thinkbaby's bottles come outfitted with cross cut nipples and this is our #1 selling style of nipple.

Although we have found that most parents prefer the cross cut nipple, it does require the parent stay on top of having the appropriate flow rate. Please see recommended rates above. Single hole nipples vent faster, which is why just about all bottle companies sell it with their.

Single Hole Nipples- The single hole flow allows for a continuous flow of liquid. This allows for a little more variance in the suggested flow rates above. The single hole nipples are labeled “Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3” depending on flow rate.

thinkbaby also recommends not overtightening the collar of the bottle, as this will restrict airflow back into the bottle.

* The flow rates and age ranges are suggested ranges. Parent’s will have to best determine the desired feeding rate of their little ones. Your child’s consumption rates differ by needing more or less than the suggested range.

A note for any type of silicone nipples used. Silicone nipples are designed to last 2 to 3 months. They should be discarded if they show signs of wear and tear. Never give the nipple to a baby as a play toy. Always supervise your child during feeding.

What is the little tube that hangs down for?

This is part of our patented anti-colic system. It allows air to travel back into the bottle so that the bottle does not develop a vacuum. With bottles that do not have venting systems, it causes the baby to work extra hard to nurse, which can cause gas and spit up. The little tube has a little slit, which will allow air to fill the bottle during nursing. The nipples are designed to get pace with specific age ranges. Most anti-colic systems require a bunch of parts which are easily lost, broken and are hard to clean. thinkbaby's system is built directly into the silicone of the nipple. Easy to use and easy to clean.
